Skin infections and disorders are among the most common problems that affect dogs. The skin problems range from mild irritation to severe discomfort. Whilst these skin problems are not fatal for the dog, they can be quite debilitating.

Typical Signs of Skin Problems

constant scratching
excessive licking
constant biting
red irritated skin
scaly patches
sores and/or scabs
bald spots
loss of hair

Sometimes, the severity of the itchiness results in the loss of hair, or sores and hot spots.

Dry, flaky skin can be a red flag for a number of problems. It's a common symptom of allergies, mange and other skin diseases. But most often, dry or flaky skin is nothing serious. Like people, some dogs simply get dry skin in the winter. If this seems to cause your pet discomfort, consult your veterinarian
